Paul Rodgers nasceu em Middlesbrough, Reino Unido, em 17 de Dezembro de 1949. Foi o mítico vocalista da banda Free formada no final dos anos 60 juntamente com Paul Kossoff, Simon Kirke e Andy Fraser que teve como êxitos "Wishing Well" e "All Right Now", que mais tarde iria a acabar dando lugar à Bad Company juntamente com Mick Ralphs, Simon Kirke e Boz Burrell que também teve magníficos êxitos tais como "Can't Get Enough Of Your Love" e "Feel Like Makin' Love".

Recentemente Rodgers fez uma tour com a banda Queen onde fizeram juntamente com Brian May e Roger Taylor a turnê do novo CD intitulado The Cosmos Rock. Em suas turnês com o Queen, os shows eram titulados como "Queen + Paul Rodgers", propositalmente, pois tocavam em seus shows tanto musicas da banda Queen quanto músicas de Paul (Free e Bad Company)

A música continua em sua familia com seus dois filhos, Jasmine Rodgers e Steven Rodgers, que compoem uma banda de rock alternativo intitulada Bôa.

Paul Rodgers ficou conhecido por sua voz com "drive" natural (voz rasgada) e ao mesmo tempo grave em que consegue alcançar notas típicas do gênero do rock setentista com vibratos redondos. Suas influências mais marcantes para composição de seu estilo vocálico são: Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, James Brown, John Lee Hooker, Albert King e Beatles.

Paul Rodgers quase foi chamado para fazer parte da banda britânica Deep Purple com a saída de Ian Gillan.
É considerado o terceiro maior vocalista de rock de todos os tempos, atrás somente de Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) e Freddie Mercury (Queen).
Free e Bad Company são consideradas duas das mais importantes bandas dos anos 60 e 70, ao lado de Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple e UFO.
Paul Rodgers junto com Jimmy Page formaram um banda chamada "The Firm" em meados dos anos 80.
